Preparation: Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before opening the blister pack.
Loading: Place 1 pessary firmly into the open end of the applicator.
Insertion: Lie on your back with your knees bent up toward your chest. Gently slide the applicator deep into the vagina as far as it comfortably goes.
Release: Push the plunger all the way in to deposit the pessary, then remove the applicator.
Timing: Insert 1 pessary nightly at bedtime for 6 consecutive nights.
Clean Up: Wash the applicator with warm (not boiling) soapy water after each use if reusable, or dispose of it if single-use.
Canesten pessaries are generally well-tolerated, but minor local reactions can occur:
Mild, temporary burning, stinging, or slight swelling inside the vagina.
Mild lower abdominal cramps or irritation.
Do I need to finish all 6 pessaries if my symptoms stop early?
Yes! Even if your itching and discharge disappear after 2 or 3 nights, complete the full 6-day course to ensure the yeast infection is entirely cleared and to prevent it from returning immediately.
Can I use external thrush cream while taking these pessaries?
Yes. If you also have external itching, redness, or burning around your outer intimate skin (vulva), you can apply an external clotrimazole 1% or 2% cream alongside the pessaries for faster comfort.
