Standard Serving: Typically 50g of powder (approx. 5 level tablespoons) mixed with 150ml of lukewarm, previously boiled water.
Variants by Age:
6 Months+: Single grain cereals (like Rice or Maize) to start the weaning journey.
8 Months+: Multi-grain and fruit combinations to introduce new textures.
12 Months - 3 Years: More complex flavors and textures to prepare for family meals.
Hygiene: Wash your hands thoroughly. Ensure all bowls and spoons are sterilized.
Water: Boil clean drinking water for 5 minutes. Allow it to cool down until lukewarm.
Measure: Pour 150ml of the lukewarm water into the baby’s bowl.
Add Cereal: Add 5 level tablespoons of Cerelac powder.
Mix: Stir until the cereal is smooth. Check the temperature by tasting it with a clean spoon before feeding the baby.
Discard: Always throw away any unfinished cereal after the feed.
Indicated For: Infants from 6 months of age up to 3 years.
Important Notice: The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months. Cerelac is a complementary food and should not replace breast milk.
Allergies: Most variants contain milk and gluten (except for the Rice/Maize start variants). Check the packaging if your child has specific dietary restrictions.
Q: Can I mix Cerelac with milk instead of water?
A: Most Cerelac variants in Nigeria already contain milk powder. You only need to add water. Adding more milk may make the meal too "heavy" for the baby’s kidneys to process easily.
Q: Why is Iron so important in baby cereal?
A: Around 6 months of age, a baby’s natural iron stores begin to deplete. Cerelac is fortified with Iron to prevent anemia and support brain growth during this critical window.
Q: How many times a day should I feed my baby Cerelac?
A: Start with one small feed a day at 6 months, gradually increasing to 2 feeds a day as the baby becomes more accustomed to solids.
