Difflam Sore Throat Rinse (0.15% w/v Benzydamine Hydrochloride) is a fast-acting, prescription-strength anti-inflammatory mouthwash and gargle.
Swished in the mouth or gargled in the throat, adults and children aged 13 and over use it for targeted relief from painful throat and mouth conditions, including severe sore throats, tonsillitis, mouth ulcers, and discomfort following dental procedures or throat surgery.
Unlike standard throat sweets or antiseptic rinses that only coat the surface, Difflam contains Benzydamine, a Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID) with local anesthetic properties:
Reduces Swelling & Inflammation: Inhibits inflammatory chemicals (prostaglandins and cytokines) right at the site of infection or injury, reducing painful tissue swelling in the throat and gums.
Numbs Pain on Contact: Provides a mild local anesthetic effect that quickly numbs burning, sharp throat pain—making it easier to swallow food and liquids.
Targeted Delivery: Works directly where you rinse or gargle without affecting the rest of your body.
🚨 Warning: Do NOT swallow the rinse.
Swish or gargle the solution thoroughly around your mouth and throat, then spit it out completely.
🚨 Stinging Warning: Undiluted rinse can cause a mild burning or stinging sensation in your mouth, especially if you have active mouth ulcers or raw skin.
If stinging occurs, dilute the solution 1:1 with plain water (e.g., 15ml rinse mixed with 15ml water) before gargling.
NSAID / Benzydamine Sensitivity: Do NOT use if you are allergic to benzydamine hydrochloride or other NSAID pain relievers.
Avoid Contact with Eyes: If the rinse accidentally gets into your eyes, wash them out immediately with clean water.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Age Limit: Suitable for adults and children aged 13 years and older. For younger children, consult a healthcare provider for pediatric-friendly options.
Measure: Pour 15ml (about 1 tablespoon) of the rinse into the measuring cup provided.
Gargle / Rinse:
For sore throats and tonsillitis: Gargle the liquid at the back of your throat for 20 to 30 seconds.
For mouth ulcers or dental pain: Swish the liquid thoroughly around your mouth for 20 to 30 seconds.
Spit: Spit the liquid out completely into the sink. Do not swallow.
Frequency: Repeat every 1.5 to 3 hours as needed for pain relief.
Duration: Do not use continuously for more than 7 days without consulting a doctor or dentist.
Difflam Rinse is well-tolerated, but minor local reactions can include:
A mild stinging, burning, or numb sensation in the mouth or tongue upon rinsing.
Temporary dryness of the mouth or throat.
Mild taste alteration immediately after use.
How quickly does Difflam Sore Throat Rinse work?
Because benzydamine is absorbed directly by the local mouth and throat tissues, most people feel initial numbing and pain relief within 1 to 3 minutes after gargling.
Can I eat or drink right after gargling?
It is best to wait at least 15 to 30 minutes after spitting out the rinse before eating or drinking so the anti-inflammatory action on your throat tissues isn't washed away immediately.
