Lyclear Cream is an over-the-counter topical antiparasitic medication. Each 30g tube contains 5% w/w Permethrin formulated in a vanishing cream base.
Applied topically over the body, adults and children aged 2 months and older use it for the treatment and eradication of scabies infestations (Sarcoptes scabiei) and crab lice (pubic lice).
Permethrin is a potent synthetic pyrethroid neurotoxin for parasites:
Disrupts Parasite Sodium Channels: Binds to nerve cell membrane sodium channels in mites and lice, delaying repolarization and paralyzing their nervous systems.
Eradicates Mites and Eggs: Kills both the active adult scabies mites and their eggs (ovicedal action), halting the transmission and life cycle of the infestation.
🚨 Crucial Application Notice: For scabies, Lyclear cream must be applied to the entire body, including the neck, hands, palms, soles of feet, skin folds, under fingernails, between toes, and external genitalia.
For children under 2 years, elderly individuals, or immunocompromised patients, the head, face, scalp, and ears must also be treated (avoiding the eyes and mouth).
🚨 Hand Washing Caution: If you wash your hands with soap and water within the 8 to 12-hour treatment window, you MUST re-apply the cream to your hands immediately.
🚨 Post-Scabietic Itch Notice: Intense itching (pruritus) can persist for 2 to 4 weeks after successful treatment.
This persistent itching is a temporary immune reaction to dead mites under the skin and does NOT automatically mean the treatment failed or that mites are still alive.
Prepare Skin: Ensure skin is cool, clean, and completely dry before application. Do NOT take a hot bath or shower right before applying, as warm skin absorbs the medication systemically rather than keeping it on the surface.
Apply Cream: Smooth a thin layer over the whole body from the neck down to the soles of the feet (including between fingers/toes and under nails).
Leave On: Leave the cream on the skin for at least 8 to 12 hours (typically overnight).
Wash Off: Shower or bathe thoroughly with cool or lukewarm water to rinse off the cream after 8–12 hours.
Repeat Treatment: A second application 7 to 14 days later is strongly recommended to kill any newly hatched mites from surviving eggs.
To prevent re-infestation and spreading:
Treat All Contacts Simultaneously: All members of the household, sexual partners, and close physical contacts should be treated at the same time, even if they have no itching or visible symptoms.
Wash Bedding & Clothing: Wash all bed linens, towels, and clothing worn in the past 4 days in hot water ($\ge \text{60°C}$) and dry on high heat.
Seal Non-Washable Items: Items that cannot be washed should be sealed tightly in a plastic bag for at least 72 hours to starve any remaining mites.
Lyclear Cream is generally safe and well-tolerated, but localized skin reactions can occur:
Temporary mild burning, stinging, or redness at the application site.
Temporary increase or worsening of skin itching (pruritus).
Mild skin dryness or numbness/tingling.
How many tubes of Lyclear Cream do I need?
An average adult typically requires 1 full 30g tube for a single whole-body application. Larger adults may require up to 2 tubes per application. Children require smaller amounts depending on age and size.
Can I use Lyclear during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Permethrin 5% cream is generally considered the first-line, preferred treatment for scabies during pregnancy and lactation due to its minimal systemic absorption. However, pregnant or nursing mothers should always consult their physician before use.
How should I store this tube?
Keep the tube tightly capped inside its original outer carton. Store in a cool, dry place strictly below 25°C or 30°C, away from direct heat and sunlight. Do not freeze. Keep strictly out of reach of children.
