While one ingredient provides a quick knockdown of the parasites, the other provides a longer-lasting action to ensure the infection is completely eliminated.
This product is primarily indicated for the treatment of acute, uncomplicated malaria. It is used for:
Malaria Infections: Specifically those caused by Plasmodium falciparum, including strains that may be resistant to older drugs like Chloroquine.
Rapid Symptom Relief: Helping to quickly reduce the fever, chills, and body aches associated with a malaria attack.
Artemether (20mg or 80mg): A fast-acting component that rapidly reduces the parasite load in the first few hours.
Lumefantrine (120mg or 480mg): A longer-acting component that stays in the system longer to kill any remaining parasites and prevent a relapse.
Standard Course: A total of 6 doses taken over a period of 3 days.
Day 1: Take the first dose immediately, followed by the second dose exactly 8 hours later.
Day 2: Take one dose in the morning and one dose in the evening (12 hours apart).
Day 3: Take one dose in the morning and the final dose in the evening (12 hours apart).
Completion: You must finish all 6 doses even if you feel completely better after the first day. Failure to finish the course can lead to the malaria returning or the parasite becoming resistant to the drug.
With Fatty Food: For maximum effectiveness, Zomal must be taken with a meal containing fat (such as milk, eggs, or a meal with oil/butter). Fat significantly improves the absorption of Lumefantrine.
Vomiting: If you vomit within 30 minutes of taking the tablet, you must take the dose again. If you vomit between 30 and 60 minutes after taking it, take a half-dose.
Swallow Whole: Swallow the tablets with water.
Not for Prevention: Zomal is used to treat an active malaria infection; it is not intended for use as a preventative (prophylaxis) medication.
Severe Malaria: If the patient is unable to eat, is vomiting persistently, or is losing consciousness (signs of severe or cerebral malaria), seek immediate emergency hospital care for injectable treatment.
