Canesten Cream contains Clotrimazole, a highly effective, broad-spectrum imidazole antifungal agent. It works by targeting the cellular membranes of pathogenic fungi, where it selectively inhibits the lanosterol 14-alpha-demethylase enzyme. This mechanical blockade stops the conversion of lanosterol into ergosterol—an essential lipid structural component required to build the fungal cell membrane.
Without ergosterol, the fungal cell wall loses its structural stability and becomes porous, allowing internal nutrients to leak out. This action halts fungal growth (fungistatic effect) and eventually leads to fungal cell death (fungicidal effect), clearing the infection from the root.

1.Wash and dry the area completely:Prerequisite.
Cleanse the infected skin thoroughly with mild soap and warm water. Pat the area completely dry with a clean, dedicated towel. Fungal spores multiply rapidly in damp environments, so eliminating moisture is crucial before application.
2.Apply a thin, even layer:Application.
Squeeze a small amount of cream onto your fingertip (a half-centimeter strip is usually enough to cover an area the size of a hand). Gently rub the cream into the affected skin and slightly onto the surrounding healthy borders.
3.Wash hands immediately:Post-Application.
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after applying the cream to prevent spreading the fungal infection to other parts of your body or other individuals.
4.Maintain consistent use:Therapeutic Duration.
Apply the cream 2 to 3 times daily. Even if your itching or visible rash disappears within a few days, you must continue applying the cream for at least 2 weeks after all symptoms have cleared to ensure deep fungal spores are fully eliminated.
💡 When treating Athlete's Foot, ensure you apply the cream carefully between the toes. Wear loose, breathable cotton socks and avoid synthetic footwear to prevent sweat accumulation while the skin heals.

What should I do if I forget to apply my Canesten cream at my usual time?
Apply the cream as soon as you remember, and then continue with your regular schedule. Do not squeeze out a double amount of cream to compensate for a missed application; simply resume your normal 2 to 3 times daily routine.
Why is it necessary to keep using the cream after the rash is completely gone?
Fungal filaments (hyphae) anchor themselves deep within the upper layers of dead skin. While the surface redness and itching disappear as soon as active inflammation drops, the underlying fungal spores can survive. Continuing treatment for 2 weeks past symptom resolution ensures that as your skin naturally sheds, the new skin layers are completely free of fungal roots.
