Imiquimod is a strong medicine. Do not use it every single day unless your doctor gives you strict orders to do so. It is usually used on a weekly schedule:
For Genital Warts: Use 3 times a week (like Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) for up to 16 weeks. Leave it on for 6 to 10 hours.
For Sun Spots: Use 2 times a week (like Monday and Thursday) for 16 weeks. Leave it on for about 8 hours.
For Skin Cancer: Use 5 times a week (Monday through Friday) for 6 weeks. Leave it on for about 8 hours.
1.Wash the skin and let it dry completely:Clean up.
Wash your hands and the skin spot with mild soap and water. Let the skin dry completely for 10 to 15 minutes. Putting this cream on wet skin can cause severe skin irritation.
2.Rub a tiny layer in right before bed:Application.
Squeeze a tiny amount of cream onto your finger. Rub a thin layer into the spot until it disappears. Do this right before sleep so the cream stays in place overnight. Wash your hands with soap immediately afterward.
3.Leave the skin completely uncovered:Let it breathe.
Do not cover the treated area with plasters, plastic wraps, or tight bandages. The skin needs to breathe. You can wear loose cotton underwear over the area, but keep it loose.
4.Wash the cream off after 8 to 10 hours:The morning rinse.
As soon as you wake up the next morning, wash the area thoroughly with warm water and mild soap to remove all the cream. Leaving it on longer can cause raw, painful burns.
