Intrasite Gel is a sterile, amorphous hydrogel dressing designed to create the optimal environment for wound healing. It is a clear, water-based gel that provides targeted hydration to dry wound beds while absorbing excess fluids from wetter ones. Its unique "Applipak" delivery system allows for precise, controlled application even in deep or awkwardly shaped wounds, ensuring the delicate healing tissue remains undisturbed.
This product is primarily indicated for wound debridement and moist wound healing. It is used for:
Necrotic Tissue (Debridement): Gently rehydrating dead (black) tissue to help the body naturally break it down and remove it.
Sloughy Wounds: Loosening and absorbing yellow slough without damaging the healthy, new tissue underneath.
Pressure Sores (Bedsores): Managing stage 2, 3, and 4 pressure ulcers by maintaining a moist environment.
Diabetic Foot Ulcers: Supporting the complex healing needs of diabetic wounds.
Minor Burns & Scalds: Providing immediate cooling and hydration to superficial burns.
Surgical Wounds: Assisting in the healing of incisions and skin donor sites.
Purified Water: The base of the hydrogel which provides essential moisture to the wound surface.
Modified Carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) Polymer: A thickening agent that allows the gel to stay in place and absorb wound exudate (fluid).
Propylene Glycol: Acts as a humectant to prevent the gel from drying out too quickly and serves as a mild preservative.
Application Depth: The gel should typically be applied to a minimum depth of 5mm (about 0.2 inches) across the wound surface.
Frequency of Change:
For necrotic or sloughy wounds, change the dressing at least every 3 days.
For clean granulating wounds, the frequency depends on the amount of fluid produced; it can stay in place for up to 7 days if a suitable secondary dressing is used.
Note: Always discard any unused gel left in the pack after a single application to maintain sterility.
Preparation: Clean the wound site with sterile saline or a wound cleanser and remove any old dressing.
Open the Pack: Remove the protective blue cap from the nozzle and snap off the patterned tip.
Apply: Gently press the bowl of the pack to dispense the gel into the wound. Keep the nozzle tip clear of the wound surface to prevent contamination.
Secondary Dressing: Cover the Intrasite Gel with a secondary dressing (such as Allevyn or Melolin) to keep the gel in place and maintain the moist environment.
Removal: When changing, simply rinse the wound with sterile saline. The gel is non-adherent and will wash away easily without causing pain.
External Use Only: Do not ingest the gel or use it inside the mouth or ears.
Eye Care: Use with extreme caution near the eyes.
Deep Fistulas: Use carefully in very deep wounds with narrow openings, as it may be difficult to rinse the gel out completely.
Infection: If the wound shows signs of infection (increased pain, redness, or foul odor), consult our pharmacist or your doctor immediately; systemic antibiotics may be required.
Sensitivity: Discontinue use if you notice any skin irritation or allergic reactions.
Indicated For: Individuals managing chronic wounds, post-surgical patients, elderly patients with pressure sores, and first-aid for minor cuts and abrasions.
Q: Can I use Intrasite Gel on a dry scab?
A: Yes. Intrasite is excellent for dry scabs (necrosis); it softens the hard tissue so it can be safely removed, allowing the underlying wound to heal.
Q: Does it sting when applied?
A: No. Intrasite Gel is known for its cooling, soothing effect and does not typically cause pain upon application or removal.
Q: Is a secondary dressing always necessary?
A: Yes. Because it is a gel, it needs an outer dressing (like a film or foam) to hold the moisture in place and protect the wound from bacteria.
