Nystan Oral Suspension is a prescription antifungal medicine. Supplied in a 30ml bottle with a measured dropper, each 1ml contains 100,000 units of Nystatin.
It is prescribed by doctors and pediatricians to treat oral thrush (candidiasis)—a fungal infection of the mouth and throat—in infants, children, and adults.
Nystan contains Nystatin, an antifungal agent:
Destroys Fungal Cells: It binds to the cell walls of Candida fungi in the mouth, causing tiny leaks that destroy the fungal cells.
Acts Locally: Nystatin works directly on contact with the tissues inside the mouth and is poorly absorbed into the bloodstream, making it gentle and targeted.
🚨 Local Contact Required: For Nystan to work effectively, the liquid must stay in direct contact with the affected areas inside the mouth for as long as possible before swallowing.
🚨 Complete Treatment: Keep using Nystan for at least 48 hours after all visible thrush signs (white patches) have completely cleared to prevent the infection from returning.
Adults and Children: Usually 1ml to 2ml taken 4 times daily after meals and at bedtime.
Infants: Usually 1ml taken 4 times daily (0.5ml into each side of the mouth).
Shake Well: Always shake the bottle thoroughly before drawing up each dose.
For Adults & Older Children: Measure the dose using the dropper, place it into the mouth, and swish it slowly around all areas of the mouth and tongue before swallowing.
For Infants: Drop half the dose into one side of the baby's mouth and half into the other side (or gently apply to white patches using a clean cotton swab). Avoid placing liquid too far back in the throat.
Food & Drink: Do not eat or drink for at least 30 minutes after using the medicine so it stays on the infected areas.
Nystan Oral Suspension is generally very well-tolerated because very little is absorbed into the body. Mild side effects can include:
Mild nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea (usually if high doses are swallowed).
Mild stomach discomfort.
Mild oral irritation or sensitization.
Keep the bottle tightly closed in its outer box to protect from light.
Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C.
Keep strictly out of reach of children.
Nystan is a regulated prescription medicine. You can bring your valid doctor’s prescription to Sanlive Pharmacy & Stores for verified supply and safe delivery anywhere in Nigeria.
