CellCept contains Mycophenolate Mofetil, a potent immunosuppressive agent that functions as a selective, reversible inhibitor of inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH). It specifically blocks the de novo pathway of purine synthesis, which T and B-lymphocytes (white blood cells) rely on entirely to multiply. By halting the proliferation of these specific immune cells, CellCept prevents the immune system from identifying, attacking, and rejecting a transplanted organ.
Kidney Transplant Rejection Prophylaxis: Preventing acute organ rejection in patients receiving allogeneic renal transplants, used concurrently with cyclosporine and corticosteroids.
Heart Transplant Rejection Prophylaxis: Preventing acute organ rejection in patients receiving allogeneic cardiac transplants.
Liver Transplant Rejection Prophylaxis: Preventing acute organ rejection in patients receiving allogeneic hepatic transplants.
Lupus Nephritis (Off-Label Use): Managing severe kidney inflammation in patients diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus.

❌ Not suitable for pregnant women, as mycophenolate mofetil causes a high risk of first-trimester pregnancy loss and severe congenital malformations. Do not use if you have a known hypersensitivity to mycophenolate mofetil, mycophenolic acid, or any component of the tablet.
Renal Transplantation: Standard dose is 1.0g (2 tablets of 500mg) taken twice daily (2.0g total daily dose).
Cardiac & Hepatic Transplantation: Standard dose is 1.5g (3 tablets of 500mg) taken twice daily (3.0g total daily dose).
💡 Take CellCept on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after meals) to ensure stable drug absorption, unless specifically directed otherwise by your transplant team. Swallow tablets completely whole; do not crush, chew, or split them.
Mycophenolate Mofetil (500mg): A 2-morpholinoethyl ester prodrug of mycophenolic acid (MPA) optimized for high systemic bioavailability and targeted lymphocyte suppression.
Common side effects include diarrhea, vomiting, low white blood cell counts (leukopenia), low red blood cells (anemia), and urinary tract infections. WARNING: CellCept increases susceptibility to opportunistic infections, including severe viral reactivations, and elevates the long-term risk of developing lymphomas and skin malignancies. Limit direct sunlight and UV exposure.
What should I do if I miss a dose of CellCept?
If you remember within 2 hours of your scheduled time, take the missed dose immediately. If it has been more than 2 hours, skip that dose and take your next dose at its regular time. Never double the dose to make up for a missed one, and notify your transplant coordinator.
Why is there a strict warning regarding pregnancy and CellCept?
Mycophenolate mofetil is a powerful teratogen (causes birth defects). Females of reproductive potential must use two reliable forms of effective contraception simultaneously for at least 4 weeks before starting, during the entire treatment duration, and for 6 weeks after stopping the medication.
Can I take over-the-counter antacids while taking this medication?
No. Antacids containing magnesium or aluminum hydroxide significantly decrease the absorption of CellCept. Avoid taking these antacids, as well as iron supplements or proton pump inhibitors like omeprazole, at the same time as your dose without consulting your physician.
